I'm a high energy guy. At least people tell me that, and
candidly I don't disagree. I think life is too short to spend time "chilling out" too much. Now before you all get worked up
and tell me I need to make sure I build some down time into my life please save
your breath.
I don't do down time very often, and when I do it is for
very specific reasons.
Still
One of the challenges that I deal with constantly in my
work is to literally be still. Listening, connecting, understanding, developing
solid work plans, and executing those plans are the core of my professional life.
But I like to go 100 mph!
All. Day. Long.
The opportunity of course is to channel the passion (yes,
I said it) for my work through the appropriate outlets. My extroverted approach helps others see their own passions, open new doors to what could be,
and to lead others to places they never imagined they could go. (At least I hope it does!)
Seeing their reactions, their curiosity, and their new found excitement gets me even more fired up!
Know
My enthusiastic approach to life is
something I now embrace. It has taken a while, but I have tried to stop
conforming to what my behavior should be in various situations.
It seems to me
there are plenty of people in the world who could use someone that infuses a
dose of high octane energy into their world.
Apparently that person is me.
Knowing who I am as a person, both personally and
professionally is quite freeing. When was the last time you felt free?
How About You
It can take a long time for us to feel comfortable in our
own skin. Some never get there. But for those of us that are blessed to look in
the mirror and accept with a smile the face staring back at us, it can open up
new doors that we never even realized were there.
I'd love to hear from you.
No Excuses.
Great post, Jay. Go on with your bad self...you gotta be you! I look forward to sitting down (okay, maybe standing up) over a cup of coffee sometime soon, as I know we're destined to connect one of these days, in one of these cities.
