Counting My Blessings

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for me.

Professionally I've met some of the most accomplished leaders in the Human Resources industry.  People I've admired from afar and traded quick messages with in cyberspace. People who make a difference.  I'm trying to make a difference too.  But the bar they have set is very difficult to reach.  So I'm thinking it's going to be a while before I start to see their tail lights ahead in the distance.

Personally I'm helping to launch a AAA Youth Hockey organization that is going to compete nationally next season against some of the best and most well-respected teams in the country.  It's new for me...and it's a huge undertaking.  I thought cut throat behaviors were in corporate America...try starting a high-level hockey club.

So today, as I think about all that is swirling around me...all that I've embraced...all of the chaos that I truly love...I'm taking a moment.

A moment to count my blessings.  Because when I add it all up, I'm the luckiest guy on the planet.  And I need to remember that every single day.

What are you thankful for?

I'd love to hear from you.

No Excuses.

  1. I'm thankful for my "family" - and I don't mean in the Sopranos sort-of-way; but maybe in a way I do. Because my family of course includes those at home whom who I love and adore. But it also means my extended HR family, my local community/friends/colleagues, plus the people with whom I get to spend each workday. A bit sentimental for early in the morning, but without all of these people, my life wouldn't be as rich and fulfilled.

  2. I have many blessings to count as well! I have an amazing family who supports me unconditionally - and that is big considering everything that I'm involved in. I am truly blessed with authentic friendships in my personal life, work life and volunteer life - they keep me grounded, focused and challenged.

Like you Jay, I have some big initiatives I want to make happen this year and when I see others that I respect in the industry accomplish so much, I think the bar might be set too high for me.

I respect and cherish those who have accomplished so much and those who have the drive to push past mediocrity and do something amazing.

I hope one day I can be the tail lights for those who have big ambitions. Until then, I am counting blessings everyday.

  4. Robin - Nothing wrong with being sentimental regardless of the time of day! Without those who are near and dear to us, we'd be lost.

Carol - You're one of the folks whose tail lights I'm chasing...

Dwane - Thanks for props...I really enjoy working with the kids. Plus hockey is the best team sport ever!

  5. I'm thankful for so much it may become a full blog post. First of all - a wife that completes me. She is the ultimate fulcrum to my craziness. Secondly, my fabulous daughter and son. Not enough space to adequately gush about these two !! Thirdly, I'm just blessed in so many ways with dear friends (like you Jay) that it consumes me. There are so many humans who touch my life everyday and they may not even know it. I could keep going, but I think you get the picture. Thanks for keeping it real my friend. Love it !!
